Sleep happy every sun that sets"
"It might be that to surrender to happiness was to accept defeat, but it was a defeat better than many victories." -W. Somerset Maugham
The first full day in Israel was jam packed; but a few of us snuck off for an excursion of shopping for towels and sheets. It was then that we met Avraham, a store owner in my new neighborhood. We got into conversation and he told us his philosophy on life, "If you go to sleep happy, it's the best way in the world."
If you go to sleep happy, you wake up happy. There should be no regrets of the sun that has just set. The sun will be back up tomorrow and yet again, when that sun sets, you should feel happy and fulfilled. What a great approach on life. His philosophy, represents life as a cycle, like the sun. To me, this cyclical "being" represents a journey. I look at life as an ever evolving journey. Where you have been and what you have experienced are all preparing you for what is to come. Life is a pathway, and as you are riding along it, you cannot necessarily see what is further down the way, however every step of the path is part of the journey.
Life is about the journey and not the destination. Especially at this point in my life because I don't necessarily know where my destination is. I have felt the need to fully embrace that idea.
The word Journey is serendipitous because I am here in Israel on a Masa program. Masa Israel is an organization that was developed by the Israeli government to offer various programs for young adults throughout Israel. I learned today that the word Masa means Journey. I literally signed up for a Journey in Israel without even knowing it. In the beginning of meeting our masa representative she put this on the board
